Statue of ‘Lady Justice’ at Supreme Court Revamped: Blindfold Removed, Constitution in Hand

The Supreme Court's 'Lady Justice' statue has been updated, with the blindfold removed and the sword replaced by the Indian Constitution, symbolizing a shift in judicial representation.

The Statue of ‘Lady Justice’ at the Supreme Court has undergone significant changes. The blindfold that once covered her eyes has been removed, and the sword in her hand has been replaced with a copy of the Indian Constitution.

According to Supreme Court sources, this new statue was created last year and was installed near the new Judges’ Library in April 2023. However, it has recently garnered attention as its photos have surfaced and gone viral.

Previously, the blindfold over the eyes of the statue symbolized equality before the law, signifying that the courts deliver judgments impartially, without discrimination. The sword represented the power to punish wrongdoing and uphold justice. In the new statue placed in the Judges’ Library, the eyes of ‘Lady Justice’ are open, and the left hand holds the Constitution.
