Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad Resigns: Key Figure in 2020 Delhi Riots Cases Steps Down
Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, who is representing Delhi Police in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots cases, has submitted his resignation to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, who is representing Delhi Police in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots cases, has submitted his resignation to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
In his letter to LG Vinai Kumar Saxena on December 15, Prasad has said that in the last 3.5 years, he has handled riot cases to the best of his ability, but now he cannot continue as SPP in cases.
“I was appointed as the Special Public Prosecutor for the Delhi riots 2020 cases, which I was continuing for 3.5 years till date. During this period, I have handled the prosecution cases to the best of my ability,” the letter reads.
It states: “However, I shall no longer be able to continue work and therefore am tendering my resignation with immediate effect.” I request that my resignation be accepted immediately. I want to thank you for the opportunity given to me.
A copy of the letter has also been sent to the courts of Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai and Pulastya Pramachala, the two judges hearing the riots cases.
Prasad has also been appointed as SPP in the Shraddha Walkar murder case. He will continue the said appointment.
