President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday paid floral tributes to the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar in the Parliament House complex on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Ambedkar’s statue. Union ministers, MPs and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta were also present to pay tribute.
On the eve of the occasion, President Draupadi Murmu greeted the people and said Ambedkar’s contribution in various fields will continue to inspire future generations to work with dedication for nation building.
In his message, he said Ambedkar distinguished himself despite facing immense difficulties and earned global respect through his extraordinary achievements. The President said he considered education an important tool for social transformation and empowerment of Dalits.
Paying tribute to Bhimrao Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, Prime Minister Modi said that it is due to his inspiration that the country is dedicated to realising the dream of social justice.
Prime Minister Modi said on 28th that his principles and ideas will strengthen and accelerate the creation of a ‘self-reliant’ and developed India.
Ambedkar is known for his lifelong struggle for the empowerment of the Scheduled Castes and his key role in drafting the Constitution.
Born in a Dalit family in 1891, he was a brilliant student who went to study abroad. The discrimination he faced in Indian society made him a committed social reformer. He was also the first Law Minister of India.
